Who hosts your website, and when does the domain expire?
Type your domain. I read the public registry and DNS records and tell you, in plain words, where the site lives, who controls the domain, the date it expires, and who handles your email. It's the list you need before you move hosts, hire someone, or take over a site the last developer left behind.
Public registry and DNS data, plus one homepage request. Nothing is stored unless you send the form.
Also free: website health, speed and SSL
HTTPS, server response time, page weight and redirects from one homepage request.
Questions
How do I find out who hosts my website?
Look up the domain here. The website host is the network the domain points to. If it shows a proxy network such as Cloudflare, the real host is hidden behind it, and the hosting invoice or the DNS account will tell you who it is.
What happens if my domain expires?
The website and every email address on the domain stop working, usually within days. After a grace period the domain can be released and bought by someone else. Turn on auto-renew and keep the registrar login where your team can find it.
Is the registrar the same as the host?
Not always. The registrar is where you rent the domain name. The host is where the website files live. The DNS provider decides where the domain points. They can be one company or three, and you need access to each one to move a site.
Can you take over hosting if the old developer disappeared?
Yes, if you can get into the domain registrar. Managed Website Hosting & Care starts at $99 a month, moving one standard site is included, and you keep full ownership of your domain and content.
