Book Jobber from ChatGPT: $7,500 once, you own it
Book Jobber from ChatGPT with a one-time Business MCP: Look Up $3,500, Desk $7,500. Jobber stays the record; you own the doorway, no subscription to me.
A lawn-care owner in Austin told me ChatGPT recommended his shop three times last month. He knows because the leads said so on the intake form. Two of them never booked. They asked for a Tuesday window. He was on a mower. The thread ended at “call us.”
That is the leak. Discovery already happened. The job did not.
Short answer: You can book Jobber from ChatGPT when a Business MCP lets the model read live availability, hold a slot under your rules, write the job in Jobber, and escalate deposits, new customers over your cap, and emergencies to you. Jobber stays the record. ChatGPT is the room the customer already opened — not a second CRM.
Can customers book Jobber from ChatGPT today?
Not natively. ChatGPT can name your shop. It cannot see Tuesday on your Jobber board, hold the window, or write the job unless you give it a keyed doorway with a written yes/no list. OpenAI’s Apps SDK (announced October 2025, later previewed for Business/Enterprise/Edu) is built on MCP so apps inside ChatGPT can call tools. That is the plumbing. It is not your Jobber badge until someone wires your account and your rules.
Jobber already sells a Client Hub so people can book from a browser. According to Jobber’s pricing page, Core starts at $29/month on annual billing ($49/month with no commitment) for one user. That hub still asks the ChatGPT user to leave the chat, open a link, and behave like a website visitor. Most of them will not.
A Zap that fires after a form submit is the same problem in a nicer costume. The customer already told ChatGPT “Tuesday 10, lawn, west Austin.” Making them type it again into a widget is how you lose the job to whoever answers first.
This is AI CRM integration in shop language: capture in the room they are in, structure the fields, write to Jobber, assign an owner, follow up, escalate the exceptions.
What does the workflow actually look like?
Trigger is a customer in ChatGPT (or Claude or Grok) asking to book you. The agent checks Jobber, holds a matching window if the rules pass, writes the job, and pings you only when money, a new customer, or an emergency needs a human.
Trigger → AI action → system of record → human escalation:
- Trigger. “Book Heredia Lawn Tuesday 10, 0.3 acre, west of Mopac.” Same shape from Claude or Grok if that is where they asked.
- AI action. Read Jobber for that crew and service window. Match duration, travel buffer, and “no same-day after 2 p.m.” from the rule sheet. Draft the job. On Desk, hold the slot. Do not take a card or issue a refund.
- System of record. Jobber. Not the chat transcript. Not a sheet that someone will forget to paste. The job number that dispatch already trusts.
- Human escalation. New customer over your dollar cap. Anything that sounds like damage or a dispute. A request to cancel or move a job that already has a deposit. You clear that queue from the phone.
Owner alerts can still land in the Telegram bot CRM workflow if that is how you live. Telegram is the pager. It is not the booking room.
For a three-truck lawn shop I would map intake to Jobber the same way I map a salon to GlossGenius: one service list, one duration table, one “who may write” list. The badge does not invent prices. It reads the ones you already published.
If the leak is still missed calls while you are on a mower, that is the AI Receptionist — $8,000 once on your number — not this doorway. ChatGPT recommendations and unanswered rings are two different holes.
How much does a Jobber ChatGPT booking setup cost vs a bot or Zapier?
Desk at $7,500 once is the booking default. Look Up at $3,500 only drafts. A leftover Telegram bot at $2k–$4k still cannot book unless you paste. Zapier bills tasks forever. You own the MCP. I do not put a per-lookup meter on it.
| Cost piece | Jobber Client Hub / Zapier | Telegram or Discord bot | Business MCP (Desk) |
|---|---|---|---|
| What the customer does | Leaves ChatGPT, opens a link or form | Joins a new chat you have to staff | Stays in ChatGPT, Claude, or Grok |
| Writes a live Jobber job | Hub yes, from the browser. Zapier copies after a trigger | Only if you also buy a doorway | Yes, under the rule sheet |
| Price shape | Jobber from $29/mo annual; Zapier tasks on top | $2,000–$4,000 once, still no Jobber keys | $7,500 once; VPS ~$15–$40/mo in your account |
| 24-month software meter to me | $0 to me; Jobber and Zapier keep billing | $0 to me after build | $0 to me after build |
Run the same 24–36 month fork on the subscription vs own calculator if you are comparing a monthly “AI booking” SaaS to a doorway you keep. The ownership wedge is the claim a $49–$300/month chatbot cannot make.
I covered the field-copy vs live-badge split in MCP vs Zapier. If you still need the shop definition of the product, start with what a Business MCP is. The fork against leftover chat rooms lives on MCP vs chat bots.
What would I automate first?
One question, one Jobber board, drafts on. Do not turn on writes the first week. Look Up is the first spend if you are tired of exporting a CSV into ChatGPT every Monday.
The first lane I ship:
- Question: “What Tuesday windows are open for lawn, west Austin, 90 minutes?”
- Read: Jobber schedule + service duration.
- Write: off. You click the job.
- Alert: a one-line ping when a ChatGPT thread asked to book and got a draft.
After you watch ten drafts and none of them invent a price, Desk turns on “hold slot + create job” for returning customers under your cap. Money stays queued.
Housecall Pro shops get the same shape. The FSM name changes. The rule sheet does not: who may write, which fields, when a human has to tap yes.
When isn’t this the right move yet?
Skip the badge if Jobber is a graveyard, the website does not convert, or the phone still dumps voicemail. A doorway cannot invent demand, and it will not pick up the shop line.
Wait if:
- Nobody on the crew opens Jobber except to send invoices. Clean the board first.
- Strangers bounce on a rented landing page. Quote custom web development before you connect ChatGPT.
- After-hours rings are the leak. That is receptionist work, then MCP.
- You want ChatGPT to refund cards, delete customers, or “just figure out pricing.” Those writes stay human.
- Your crew will not leave a locked Discord and the customer is never in ChatGPT. Then the room is the product, and a leftover bot can still be the right catalog item.
If you run a home-service shop and the phone is the first hole, the deployment shape I would build is on the contractor receptionist page. Booking from ChatGPT is step three in the sequence I sell now: site, then phone, then badge.
Map the first Jobber question and the writes that stay off. Send the short audit — a short form, I reply with your replacement map within 24 hours. Look Up is $3,500. Desk is $7,500. You own it.
FAQ
Can customers book Jobber from ChatGPT? +
Not out of the box. ChatGPT can recommend your shop, then the thread dies at a phone number or a Client Hub link. A Business MCP is the badge so ChatGPT, Claude, or Grok can read live Jobber availability and hold a slot under a written rule sheet. Jobber stays the system of record.
How much does it cost to let ChatGPT book into Jobber? +
Look Up is $3,500 once for one system and drafts only. Desk is $7,500 once for two systems with approved writes — that is the booking default. Floor is $14,000 once for staff permissions. You own the doorway. A small VPS in your account runs about $15–$40/month. I do not bill a required retainer.
Does this replace Jobber Client Hub or Zapier? +
No. Keep Client Hub for people who already visit your site. Keep Zapier for dumb copies: form to sheet, invoice paid to a ping. Buy the badge when the customer is already in ChatGPT and will not open another tab. Stacking Zaps to fake a live schedule lookup is the expensive path.
Will it work with Housecall Pro or Google Calendar too? +
Yes, if that is the live schedule. Desk covers two systems that pass work — Jobber plus calendar, or Jobber plus HubSpot. Money, refunds, and cancellations wait in an approval queue. I do not replace your FSM. I wire the doorway into it.
When should I still buy a Telegram bot instead? +
When the room itself is the product: a locked owner console you refuse to leave, or a crew that already lives in Discord. For a customer who asked ChatGPT who to hire, another chat window is a worse front door. Fix the website and the phone line first if those are the leaks.
